Local government budgets are the budgets of cities, counties, school districts, and other local taxing authorities, such as park or community college districts.

The No Taxation without Information movement advocates the view that all local governments are obligated to post their budget online, on their website.

  • It should be very easy for a regular person to quickly locate the budget on the website. In other words, a link to the pages where the budget is located should be prominently displayed and correctly labelled.
  • The budget should be searchable.
  • The website should also store copies of past year budgets, allowing people to readily compare the budget from one year to the next.
  • Ideally, the website will include graphs and charts that enable people to visually grasp the basics of the budget.
